Dear reader, you’re probably questioning the title of this blog? So, I’ll introduce myself.

My names is Mathilda Ruiz, I live in the south of France (maybe the title is clearer now)?

I’m currently studying at Francois Arago High school and I’ll hopefully gain my baccalaureate in Economic and Social Sciences next year. I know these subjects might appear a little ‘dry’ but actually they’re really interesting (more than I thought). Full of new knowledge, projects and ideas, my ultimate dream is to become a journalist. To travel, communicate and meet people is what will drive me to get out of bed every morning (not like school).

My thirst for knowledge and desire to discover the world led me to pack my little case and travel to England last year – yes, I know, to swap the French summer sun for the English rain might seem crazy, but I’m quite crazy actually.

Staying with family friends in Nailsea, I was offered the opportunity to undertake work experience for PureComms which I thoroughly enjoyed. What struck me the most when I first visited the office was the reptiles (not your average additions to an office!). But after a while I got used to them, and everyone took care of me and helped me. Even with my French accent they made me feel comfortable and settled.

The award-winning team left a lasting impression on me, so decided to come back again this year to undertake further work experience.   My experience at PureComms has been really interesting. I’ve met new people, attended meetings, undertaken research and of course improved my language skills and gained more self-confidence. The opportunity to work in a different country and with such a lovely team has been really rewarding – it will push me to continue in this way.

If I could give a tip for anyone who is reading this, even if you’ re really afraid and worried because of lot of reasons, take the plunge because it’s the best way to grow up and live amazing adventures. Thank you to PureComms for giving me such an amazing opportunity.

Mathilda
