Last August we shared how our CEO, Rob, was on the hunt for the Saint Lucia Racer, the World’s rarest snake, just off the East Coast of Saint Lucia.

Well, this month during a trip to Antigua, Rob ticked another incredible find off his list as he laid eyes on the Antiguan Racer! Another critically endangered species, this snake is only found in Antigua and Barbuda, and is among the rarest snakes in the World.

Once thought to be extinct, the Antiguan Racer was found surviving on one tiny islet. After a 20-year project established by five national and international organisations, the population of the species increased from 50 to over 500 across four islands.

Rob was lucky enough to be able to work with Josh and Nathan from The Environmental Awareness Group – Antigua and Barbuda’s oldest environmental NGO – to take a trip to an island off the coast of Antigua and assist in a research project chipping the snakes, helping the conservationists to monitor the species.

Not only was this an incredible personal achievement for Rob, but it was also invaluable to the team at The Environmental Awareness Group who are always seeking funding to be able to continue the incredible work they do in Antigua and Barbuda protecting many endangered species around the island.
