At the beginning of May we enjoyed a super successful launch of what we hope will continue to be a super successful yearly tradition – the PureComms Cup!

On Wednesday the 4th we invited a whole host of clients, suppliers, partners, local businesses, friends, and family down to Nailsea & Backwell RFC to enjoy a sunny afternoon of touch rugby followed by BBQ food and a few drinks. We were even lucky enough to have a star appearance from none other than our sponsored player, Bristol Bears Yann Thomas!

There was an incredible turn out with enough players to fill out 6 teams! After a quick walk through for the touch rugby ‘noobs’, the tournament got started in round robin format with Yann sharing some top tips and running drills on the side. As we progressed through the afternoon there was a clear handful of teams who began to break away at the top, but it was eventually Team 3 vs Team 5 in the final…

Up until now the teams had been playing at half-pitch size, but the referees decided to spice things up for the final and have the teams play on the full pitch. Tiring! Despite their best efforts, Team 5 just couldn’t break ahead and it was Team 3 – featuring our very own Caitlin and Georgia – who won the game and took home the trophy.

Yann Thomas conducted the winner’s presentation and each player in Team 3 received an incredible box of goodies kindly put together by Boxlocal – just what they need to recuperate after such a taxing afternoon! The BBQ was lit and there were no sore losers as everyone got together over a burger and a pint.

We would like to say a huge thank you firstly to all our players who came with such an amazing ‘get stuck in’ attitude. They made the entire afternoon enjoyable and everyone had a barrel of laughs.

We would also like to thank Nailsea & Backwell RFC for opening up the clubhouse and giving up your Wednesday afternoon to referee and man the bar. Your continued support for our sometimes very unusual ideas does not go unnoticed!

And of course we would like to say thanks to Yann Thomas for coming down and coaching our teams – we’re sure you’ll be poaching some of them for Bristol Bears next season 😉
